Can you stop foreclosure on a house after the foreclosing date has been set?

The bank is foreclosing on my relative’s house in 3 weeks. The thing is that he is older and left the state for a long vacation without making arrangements for paying his mortgage. He’s back now and has the money to pay everything that is owed. Can he still fork over the payment and avoid foreclosure? Or is foreclosing inevitable once the process starts? What can he do?

He can stop it up until the date it happens. The house is still his.

What Are Your Options After Bankruptcy?

Most people that file for bankruptcy have never done that before and when the court proceedings are done and the papers are all signed, the reality begins to set in. The house is taken away, the new car is gone, and some of the property you had accumulated is gone. The lawyers like to refer to a bankruptcy as a second chance at life – you go through the after effects and figure out how to pick up the pieces. While certainly it is not the happiest time in your life, after bankruptcy is not all doom and gloom. You are given a chance to put the pieces back together the right way and one can only hope you’ve learned the proper lessons.

Sometimes the effect of bankruptcy is a job loss. This is not always the case but as your credit rating plummets your employer can release you from the job based on your credit rating, not because of a bankruptcy. So go get a job. Talk to employers, explain your situation and be honest with them. Honesty is all you have and a bankruptcy does not mean that you are necessarily an unreliable person. Just keep trying and eventually you will find someone that will listen, understand and will be willing to give you a chance.

Probably the biggest shock to deal with after bankruptcy is losing your house. The home you put together, with all your memories, is gone but you need to move on. Try to find a place to rent that won’t judge you by your recent bankruptcy. Look at a lot of places and fill out a lot of applications. Be honest with the landlord and just explain your situation. Just like your job hunt, honesty is all you have to offer people to offset a bankruptcy on your credit.

While all bankruptcies are not the result of bad money management, many of them are. Whatever the situation that brought about your bankruptcy, it is important that you’ve learned your lesson so that you do not make the same mistakes, or allow the same situation to occur in the future.
